Keli and Noah had such a great afternoon testing out different materials to see what would float and what would float.
They decided to test out the idea of turning the modelling clay into a boat shape to see if they could make it float.
They also tried to fill their boat up with different materials to see if it would still float. Great experimenting boys!
Welcome to Tuatahi, your child's first class. This blog is a place where we share our learning journey with our whanau and friends. Our whole school theme for 2022 is Superheroes, and this term we will look at the idea that not all superheroes wear capes. We look forward to working together to create a positive learning journey for your child.

hip hop
We had so much fun today learning a hip hop dance. Lexi, from the YMCA is teaching us all a hip hop dance over two sessions. We had our first session today and the next session is next term.
We learned some new moves-ask your child what the 'flick' is. They could also show you some other moves such as 'pick up the marshmallows', 'sassy walk' and 'monkey'!!
Here are some photos of us trying out our moves.

Floating and Sinking
This week our shared Big Book is called 'Will it Float?'
We have enjoyed reading this Non-fiction book and we had even more fun during play based learning when we got the chance to test out floating and sinking for ourselves!
Hosana is testing out a toy dinosaur-will it float or sink?
Claude is testing out a marble-do you think it will float or sink?

Maths this week in Room 2
Our week began with our problem solving as usual. We are learning to draw a picture to solve the problem and to count how many altogether.
Here are some of this weeks problem solvers!
Makaela has been counting bears to match the number on the card.
We have really enjoyed having Niko's Nanna who has been coming in to help us during maths time. Today some learners had fun threading beads onto pipe cleaners and then ordering them. Thanks Nanny Kim, we love it when you pop in to help us out!
Claude has also been counting out the number of bears needed to match the number card. Great counting Makaela and Claude! |

Writing
Last week we read a big book called The Giant's Stew.
Yesterday we became authors and illustrators as we drew our own picture and wrote a sentence about the story.
We have put our pictures together to make our own big book of The Giant's Stew.
Next time you are in Room 2 pop in and have a read!

Maths in Room 2 this week
Here is a snapshot of some of the maths we have done in Room 2 this week.
We began our week with problem solving which gave us a chance to work with a buddy. We had to draw a picture to solve our problem.
We began by counting how many ears one bear had. We then drew two bears, and counted how many ears there were.
With our buddy we then had to work out if we had three bears, and then four bears, how many ears would there be!!
We were learning to draw the picture to help solve the problem, and then to count how many altogether.

We have also been learning to recognise number patterns, we are getting very clever at recognising groups of five.
Parineeti and Makaela had fun learning to group and order numbers to 5.
PMP
This week in PMP we were balancing, crawling and using our arms to move around on our tummies! Here are a few photos of us in action.
