Welcome to Tuatahi, your child's first class. This blog is a place where we share our learning journey with our whanau and friends.
Our whole school theme for 2022 is Superheroes, and this term we will look at the idea that not all superheroes wear capes.
We look forward to working together to create a positive learning journey for your child.
As part of our school theme, 'In our back yard', we have been drawing pictures of our houses to put on a map. We have also been learning to say our address.
This week we read a book called 'Our Street'. We realised that not all houses are the same!
Next week we are going to make houses out of boxes.
Sia and Joey decided to make houses out of blocks during Play-based Learning.
Great imagination along with team work resulted in a rather grand abode!
After much excitement, our week in the pool with our instructors is nearly over.
We have had so much fun in the pool and we have loved watching every one gain confidence as they get used to being in the water, and become more familiar with our school pool.
We have instructors coming in to teach water skills for life.
Please pack named togs and towel into a bag, and we recommend leaving them at school for the duration of the week. We will make sure they have a chance to dry over night on our clothes racks.
It was lovely to get an email from Zoe today sharing some of her home learning with us.
Zoe has been very busy counting. She counted 13 doors in her house, 19 houses in her street and 65 steps to her letterbox-that is a lot of counting Zoe!
Zoe has also been on a letter hunt around her house, she found lot's of things beginning with the letter C.
Zoe also went on a walk with her big sister Freya to collect rubbish around their local area. What a great job you have both done getting rubbish out of the waterways- well done girls.
Now it's time to practise counting forwards and backwards to 20. Challenge yourself to see if you can say the next number before the lady on the video!
Can you draw a picture of your house? We would love you to bring your picture to school when we return so that we can put it on our class map of our local area.
Talk a walk out to your letter box. What number can you see on your letter box-you may need someone to help you read the number.
Yesterday we looked for things in our house that are shaped like a circle. I wonder what you found?
Today we are going to look for things that are square shaped.
How many sides and corners can you count on this square. Have a look around your house for things that are shaped like this. We would love to see some photos of what you have found.
Now for some counting practise. Yesterday you counted how many forks you had in the kitchen. Today we would like you to count how many spoons you have in your kitchen drawer.
A little trick to help you count is to put the spoons in a row, it makes it easier to count.
Here is the nz phonics song to practise the names and sounds of the letters
After much patience and excitement, we finally got to have our first dip in the pool!
We are super proud of all our Tuatahi learners who showed courage and resilience as they made their way to the side bar for the first time in our pool.
We know you had a great time and we are looking forward to swimming again next Thursday!
