I spy a rectangle...................

This week we have been learning to identify and name a rectangle.

Can you remember what makes it different to a square?

Some of our learners have been on a rectangle hunt in the classroom-here are some photos of what they found.

Keeping plastic out of our oceans........

We have been talking about how important it is not to let rubbish go into the drains and out to sea.

Jodie came to talk to us about the effects of plastic in our sea.

As part of our learning, our school took part in a walk around our local area to pick up rubbish so that it can't go down the drain.

We found lot's of rubbish on our walk. Ka pai Tuatahi, you have stopped lots of rubbish from ending up in the sea.

triangles......

This week we have been learning to recognise and name a triangle.

We learnt a poem to help us remember how many sides a triangle has. You may like to practise this at home:

       A triangle has three sides

      A triangle has three sides

Up the mountain, down and back

     A triangle has three sides.

We have been finding triangles in our classroom

We also found lot's of triangle shaped food in our lunch boxes!

We found a lot of triangles this week!

Writing

We have been busy writing in Tuatahi!

We have many opportunities to practise and develop our writing during our week. Here are some photos of us in action!

Sasha, Maisie, Joey and Taya are practising how to write our word of the week. This is one of the activities they have chosen during Play-Based Learning.
Christopher has been practising independent writing, where he has been writing down all the words he knows all by himself.
Aurora and Zoe are working on guided writing with the teacher. They are learning to put finger spaces between words, and to use their word card to find the words and sounds that they need.

Isla and Ariya are working independently in the writing corner during Play-based Learning.

             Great writing Tuatahi-Ka pai

A visit from Mrs Johns...............

Mrs Johns bought some furry visitors to our room-can you guess what they were-they are hidden under the cloth.

They were baby quails! They were very cute and fluffy.

The light keeps the baby quails nice and warm.

The marbles in the water dish stop the babies from slipping into the water while they have a drink.

Thank you for your visit Mrs Johns, we really enjoyed seeing the baby quails.

Pop Pop Popcorn!

It was a pop pop pop popcorn kind of day on Friday! First we decorated our boxes. Next we cut and folded our boxes, we had to think carefu...
