number fun!

We had fun ordering these numbers and then matching the  set of monsters to the correct number. We had to do a lot of counting!

Hunting for shapes!

We found some shapes in the Fale. The floor in the Fale was an oval shape.

Luke and Rahman have found the pillars shaped like a cylinder.

Emily has found a cylinder shape in the garden

Jacob and Nora found squares painted on                                           the concrete.
Zejm found a circle
Lochlan can see a rectangle on the chicken coop.

These climbing bars are in the shape of an octagon. We counted 8 sides!

We found more squares.

We also found shapes in our playground. This climbing net has squares.

Leo found a hexagon-do you know how many sides a hexagon has?

It's Green Week at Owairaka!

Welcome to your first Green Week!
We are listening to some clues that will help us get to know some special places in our school.
Our clue today was to find a place where some thing stripy and squishy lives.

Here we are listening to the first clue and wondering where in our school we might go.
We are on our way to follow our clue-can you guess where we are going?

We walked to the big swan plant by the Fale and we found something stripy and squishy-it was a caterpillar. We saw lots of caterpillars!! We solved the mystery by listening to the clue. We even saw a butterfly.

Our next clue told us to find somewhere in our school where there is something fluttery. Some children had the idea that we could go to where the pictures of the butterflies were, so we headed to the Butterfly Garden.

Thank you Xavier for reading the special sign that told us this was the Butterfly Garden where fluttery butterflies like to be.
Great team work Rooms 2 and 3!

DON'T FORGET TO WEAR SOMETHING GREEN TOMORROW FOR GREEN DAY!

Our visit to the school library!

On Friday we visited the school library.  Shoes off before we go in!

Mrs Boyce loved sitting on the step and reading to us.

Latu, Artash, Mila and Aisha found some cushions to sit on.  What a comfortable spot.

Sophie and Anessa had fun reading together!

Ina used a special shelf marker to help her remember where she got her book from.

Jacob enjoyed choosing a book to read.

Room 2 and 3 children are great readers!

Jude and Leo were very busy choosing a book to read.

Thank you Mrs Cramer for coming to the library with us.

Demetrius and Rahman loved sitting on the steps to read.

What a great way to spend Friday afternoon!! We  can't wait to visit the library again.

Shapes

We are learning about shapes.-We made some shapes out of ice block sticks.
When you are out and about see if you can find things that are different shapes.
Where do you think you might see a circle, or a square or even a diamond?
Can you remember how many sides a triangle has?
Can you remember how many corners a square has?
Have fun being a shape detective-shapes are everywhere!

Life Education

We are super excited to visit the Life Education Van.
When we get inside the van we sit against the wall-it is just like a  classroom inside!

We are learning what we need to be healthy so that we can grow and learn.
Michelle taught us that we need healthy food, water, shelter, love,
oxygen and lots of rest.
We are learning how to look after our special friends. If you look carefully you will see them in our hands!
We talked about how we can look after each other at school and what we can do if we see someone is sad.
It was really exciting to meet Harold the giraffe. We have painted some pictures of Harold-next time you are in Room 2, pop in and have a look at our lovely art.

Pop Pop Popcorn!

It was a pop pop pop popcorn kind of day on Friday! First we decorated our boxes. Next we cut and folded our boxes, we had to think carefu...
