It's holiday time!

Morena Tuatahi

Today is the start of our two week holiday. We realise the importance of giving your child a break from learning, and so use this time to recharge your batteries!
However, if you would like some little challenges to keep you going over the break, some ideas are included below.

You can begin your day by counting and exercising at the same time!
        Jack Hartman count to 100
        Patty Shulka count to 100

You can also practise counting backwards from 20 with   Count back cat
Remember when counting backwards from 20 that you are saying 'teen' and not 'ty'!

And for having fun-Stand up -sit down

Reading every day is very important. Don't forget to check out the stories on National Radio

Learning at home!

Dear families

Just a quick note to let you know that there is a box in the hall for each class that has packs for each child with some learning activities you can use at home. The hall will  be open until around 4pm this afternoon if you would like to pop in and collect your pack.

In the meantime, here are a couple of ideas that we hope will help you out over the coming weeks:

.practise the names and sounds of the alphabet letters
.find things in your house or out in the garden that begin with different sounds
.counting practise-forwards and backwards to 20-what comes before, what comes after…
.identify basic shapes by name-triangle, square, rectangle, oval, circle, pentagon, hexagon-find examples of these shapes in and around your home

In your pack
.orange books are for writing a sentence about something they have done that day-use the word card to help find some of the words you need, and try sounding out the beginning sound of each word.
.letter and number formation-do this every day, and then have a go at writing them on your own
.Read, read, read
.maths sheets to help for counting forwards and backwards and then counting on.

Some interesting websites to check out:

.Google ‘brain break action songs’ and you will find fun ways to get moving
.Twinkl is a website full of material that is offering free membership to parents for a month-you may find something that you would like to print out.

Please keep checking our blog, as we will put little challenges on there on a Monday and Wednesday to keep you going!

Thinking of you all, take care and we can’t wait to see you all again soon!
All the best

Independent writing

We are reading a shared book called 'The Machine Boogie'.
This afternoon some learners chose to draw some pictures of the machines. We had diggers, rollers, bulldozers, and a dump truck!
They wrote a sentence to go with their picture.
Here is a photo of our proud learners sharing their work with the class.

Our young engineer!

This afternoon during Play-based Learning, some boys were experimenting with boxes to create a ramp for the cars to go down. Arai decided the boxes needed to connect, and got some cardboard to create a bridge.
Great job Arai, with a bit of tape to strengthen the cardboard, the bridge was soon in action!

Nice work girls!

swimming

We have had a fun week of swimming with our wonderful instructors from Swimsation.
We began by practising our safe entry into the pool-2 hands on the side, turn and slide in.

We played ring-a-ring-a-rosie

We learned how to be jellyfish-floating on our front and back-this was tricky to do!

We also practised using the flutter boards to help us kick across the pool.

We have had lots of fun and are looking forward to another week of fun lessons next week!

Pop Pop Popcorn!
