This week we celebrated Green Week. We have been learning about compost.
Did you know we have compost bins at our school?
Here are some photos of how we make our compost at school.
First, we make sure we put our rubbish in the correct bin:
yellow is for landfill
green is for food waste
black is for paper recycling
Then we empty our small bins into the big bins!
This is where we empty our food scraps ready for composting.
The next step is for the green bin to be emptied into the big compost bins-Taytum does this job for us.
Here are our lovely new compost bins which can be found on the field.
Leaves are also added to the compost bin.
Worms help to turn our food waste into compost.
Once we have our new compost, it is used as healthy soil to put on the garden.
We have enjoyed learning about compost this week.
Fantastic photos to show us how to be a kaitiaki (guardian of the environment). Thank you for sharing how compost is being made at Owairaka. We can learn a lot from your blog post - ka pai Tuatahi!
