We enjoyed a visit from Tom and Ari, from Auckland Museum, who came to talk to us about volcanoes.
We learnt a lot of interesting information.
Did you know there are 53 volcanoes in Auckland and volcanoes can be either extinct, sleeping or active. This map shows the volcanoes in Auckland.
Our local Maunga, is extinct.
Here are some photos of some of the learning we did with Tom and Ari.
They showed us a picture of Earth. We looked at the different layers of Earth-crust, mantle and core,
We labelled parts of a volcano.
We also got to hold different types of Volcanic rock and ash(in a jar!)
Finally we got to watch a volcano erupt!
We really enjoyed our session with Tom and Ari, and if you want to learn more about volcanoes you might like to visit Auckland Museum in the holidays.
We are making our own volcano-watch this space!
Wow, lots of great learning about volcanoes Tuatahi. Have fun making your own volcanoes!
