WE  LOVE READING too!

Can you remember what word the letters spelt out?

Matariki Breakfast

This morning we celebrated the end of our Matariki learning with a special breakfast of toast and milo.  It was lovely to share it with our Kauri team buddies who have been working with us in Tuatahi on Tuesday afternoons this term.

Role play during Play-based Learning

We have had lot's of fun being creative and sharing during PBL this week.

Matariki

We have been learning about Matariki.
Did you know that Matariki is a celebration of the Maori New Year?
We have been looking at the 7 Matariki stars.
Did you know the Maori word for star is whetu?         We read some books about Matariki.

We did some planting as part of our Matariki celebration. We planted snow peas-yum!
We listened to a song to help us learn the Matariki stars. You can practise singing it at home.
We also made some Matariki kites.

Tomorrow we are ending our week of Matariki learning with something special-I wonder if you can guess what it might be?

Tinomalu is also working on his counting.
Friday fun-making toast in Room 1-yum yum!
More Friday fun-showing the life cycle of a butterfly-we even learned how to do arrows to show which way the cycle goes!
Great team work-negotiating, communicating and problem solving!

look what happened while we were sleeping.................

What a big surprise we got when we came into school this morning and saw this!
Our caterpillar has disappeared into it's chrysalis.
We are wondering if it will stay green or if it will change colour.

We are learning to add two sets together.

Green Week

This week was Green Week at Owai!
Did you know Owairaka is an enviro school, and we recycle our rubbish where we can. We have different coloured bins for different types of rubbish.
We spent time making
sure we know what rubbish goes in what bin by sorting different types of rubbish into the right bin.

Then we visited              the places where the bins are emptied.

The empty milk cartons get flattened out and put into this special milk bin.
What do you think might be in this special bin?
Did you guess worms? This is our worm bin!
We also made our way to the compost bin which is where we empty our fruit scraps.

What do you think happens to the compost?

We emptied our landfill rubbish into the yellow bin, and our paper recycling into the black bin.
What a busy afternoon of recycling we had!
