Kia orana

Kia orana and welcome to Cook Islands Language Week.

Here is the Cook Islands welcome song we have been learning in class, you may like to try singing it together at home.

We were really lucky to have a visit from Haley, who brought in her special covers with Tivaevae patterns on them.

We watched a video showing us how people in the Cook Islands sew their beautiful Tivaevae patterns on to the material. You can click on the picture below if you would like to have a look together at home.

We then had a go at making our own Tivaevae patterns by folding and cutting paper squares.

We then joined our tivaevae patterns together to make our own quilt! We hope you like it.

We ended our week with a special visit from McKenzye, Brooklyn and Ariya who performed a Cook Island Dance for us, it was very special and really enjoyed the dance.
Meitaki for your lovely performance.

Ka kite, have a lovely weekend.
